# Add, change and delete habit groups

> Every habit starts with one schedule, its Default group. Hold Alt and drag the habit from the Habits list to add Group 1, Group 2 and more, each with its own time and days. A plain drag adds a one-off for one day. Deleting the Default group deletes the habit, and your completions stay.

*Figure: Three schedule cards of the habit Stretching: at 7 AM in its Default group, at noon as a one-off, and at 6 PM in Group 1, each with its group's corner colour.*

- Made with the habit. Its corner is red.
- A plain drag from the Habits list. One day only.
- Alt and drag. Its own time and days.

*Example data: one habit in three groups on the same day.*

## Tell the kinds of group apart

Each group is one schedule of a habit. Its colour sits in the corner of the habit's cards.

*The three kinds of habit group*

| Group | How you add it, and when it repeats |
| --- | --- |
| Default group | Made with the habit by **Create habit**. It repeats on the habit's **Recurrence**. |
| Group 1 and later | Alt and drag from the Habits list, or **Create new group**. Each repeats on its own Recurrence, from the day you add it. |
| One-off | A plain drag from the Habits list: **Schedule habit**. One day only. The app calls it an **Individual habit**. |

Groups take the next number and keep it. They have no name to edit, and each one belongs to its habit. Creating the habit itself is in [Habits and streaks](https://dabadoro.com/docs/habits-and-streaks/).

## See what happens when you change or delete

Your completions, coins and logged time never change. The schedule around them can.

*What each change or delete does*

| If you | Then |
| --- | --- |
| Change a group's time | That day and later days move. Earlier days keep their time. |
| Change the Default group's days | Every day follows the new days, earlier days too. Past days in the schedule, the heatmap and the streak in [Analytics](https://dabadoro.com/docs/analytics/) follow them. |
| Change a reward, tracking, checklist or tags | The value starts that day and becomes the habit's default. Earlier days without a value of their own show it. |
| Rename the habit or change its topic | Every day shows the change, in Analytics too. |
| Delete one day | Only that day goes. A completed day also leaves Analytics, and its coins stay. |
| Delete Group 1 or a later group | Its coming days go and its completed days stay. The habit, its other groups and its streak carry on. |
| Delete the Default group | The habit and all its groups go, and it leaves the Habits list. Completed days stay in the schedule and in Analytics. |
| Delete by mistake | Press `Ctrl+Z`. Later, a new habit with the same title in the same topic brings the old one back, with its history. |
| Look for pause or archive | Dabadoro has neither. |

## Add a group to a habit

A group starts on the day you drop it. Past days take no new groups.

1. **Hold Alt and drag the habit**

Drag it from the Habits list into the hour you want. **Create new group** opens.

2. **Set its time and recurrence**

   Then press **Create new group**.

*Figure: The Create new group form for Stretching, topic Health: 6:00 PM, 10 coins, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Example data.*

*Example data: a group of Stretching from Wednesday 21 October, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.*

**Create new group** in the habit's menu in the Habits list does the same on the day shown.

A plain drag opens **Schedule habit** instead: a one-off on that day only, even a day the habit is not scheduled on.

## Change a whole group

Hold Alt and choose Edit on one of its cards. The change starts on that card's day.

*How far a group edit made on 21 Oct reaches*

| What you change | Before 21 Oct | From 21 Oct |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Time | Unchanged | New |
| Reward, tracking, checklist and tags | New, unless set for that day | New |
| Days it repeats (Recurrence) | New on every day | |
| Days you moved or deleted one at a time | Unchanged | Back to the group |

*Example data: a group edit made on Wednesday 21 October.*

- The switch at the top of **Edit habit** picks **Single**, that day, or **Group**.
- Only the Default group's **Recurrence** can change. Other groups keep the days they started with.
- Title and topic belong to the habit: choose **Edit habit** in its menu in the Habits list.

> **Tip:** To move a whole group, hold **Alt** and drag one of its cards. Earlier days keep their time.

## Delete a day or a group

On a Default group card, and in the Habits list, Delete asks which group.

*Figure: The Choose group to delete dialog. It says: Deleting the default group deletes this habit and all groups. Your history stays in the schedule and analytics; the habit stops appearing from tomorrow. Rows: Group 1, Delete; Default group, Delete all groups.*

*Example data: a habit with its Default group and Group 1.*

*Where each delete is*

| Do this | It deletes |
| --- | --- |
| **Delete** on a card of Group 1, a later group or a one-off | That day |
| Hold Alt and choose **Delete** on one of those cards | Its whole group, after **Delete entire group?** |
| **Delete** on a Default group card, or **Choose group to delete** in the Habits list | The group you pick. **Delete all groups** deletes the habit. |
| Hold the × on a completed or past card | That day |

In the picker, the **Group individual** row deletes every one-off of the habit. To log a missed day instead of deleting it, use [Complete activity](https://dabadoro.com/docs/complete-past-days/).
