# Choose a schedule view and layout

> The schedule shows period columns, a one-day list or one period at a time, with an optional week strip. Choose the view in Settings, on the Schedule tab. The same tab sets the minimum column width and the dashboard layout. A title bar button switches to a compact window.

## Pick a schedule view

Try each view on an example day. The app draws the same day the same way.

*Figure: The schedule in the Period columns view. Example data.*

Morning, Afternoon and Evening sit side by side. When the window gets narrower, fewer columns fit and the others are one sideways scroll away.

1. **Open Settings**

Click the gear in the title bar.

2. **Choose the Schedule tab**

It sits between Appearance and Timer.

3. **Pick a view under Schedule view**

The schedule changes at once. There is nothing to save.

> **Shortcut:** In Period columns, press `V` to switch between blocks of three hours and one row per hour.

## Fit the columns to your window

Period columns shows as many columns as fit. The rest are one sideways scroll away.

*Full screen: Morning, Afternoon and Evening side by side.*

*Two thirds: Two columns. Scroll for the third.*

*Half screen: One column, with arrows and dots.*

*Example: a minimum column width of 380 px, a fifth of a 1920 px screen.*

[**Minimum column width**](https://dabadoro.com/docs/settings/#minimum-column-width) decides when a column drops. By default it is a fifth of your screen's width. Drag the slider for your own width, from 200 to 800 px, and press **Match screen** to go back.

The brackets under the slider show how many columns a full-screen window fits. Arrows and dots in the period header move one column at a time.

## Show the week strip or fold empty hours

Four switches under Display change what the schedule draws.

*Figure: The schedule header with the week strip shown: Thursday 22 October is chosen. Example data.*

*The week strip with Thursday chosen. Example data.*

The week strip shows seven days, Monday first. Pick a day to open it, then [drag a task](https://dabadoro.com/docs/dashboard-and-schedule/) into that day. The calendar button at the left of the schedule header turns the strip on and off.

**Fold empty hours** works in the one-day list. Two or more free hours in a row fold into one thin row, and they open while you drag.

## Choose a dashboard layout

Classic keeps one panel on the left. The second layout puts three panels side by side.

*Classic: Timer, Tasks and Habits share one tab bar on the left.*

*Timer, Schedule, Tasks and Habits: Three panels side by side. Drag their edges to resize them.*

Pick it under **Dashboard layout** on the Schedule tab. In the three-panel layout, drag a panel's edge to resize it, or focus the edge and use the arrow keys. Each side panel goes from 260 to 560 px, and the schedule never gets narrower than 360 px.

**Reset to defaults**, at the end of the Schedule tab, puts every choice and both panel widths back.

> **Tip:** Double-click a panel edge to give it back its **default width**.

## Switch to the compact window

A button in the title bar, between Minimise and Maximise, swaps the window between two sizes.

*Figure: Windows and Linux: Minimise, the Compact view button, Maximise and Close.*

*Windows and Linux: One button between Minimise and Maximise.*

*Figure: macOS: two small buttons, Default view, pressed, and Compact view.*

*macOS: Two buttons: Default view and Compact view.*

*The button shows the view a press goes to. In the compact window it turns back into Default view.*

**Default view** sizes the window to your screen and uses your layout. **Compact view** is a small, nearly square window with the timer, the schedule and Tasks side by side.

Panel widths and the window view are kept on each computer. They are not [synced to your account](https://dabadoro.com/docs/sync-and-accounts/).
