# Sync your data with a free account

> Dabadoro saves every change on your computer first, then sends it over TLS to your free account about a minute after you stop editing. Your other computers receive it when they start or reconnect. It works offline after the first sign-in, and the status bar shows whether your changes are synced.

## See where your data lives

Your computer holds the working copy. Your account holds a synced copy for your other computers.

### Your computer

Dabadoro saves every change here first.

- Works offline after the first sign-in.
- The sign-in key stays in your keychain for a year.

### Your free account

Keeps a synced copy of your tasks, habits, coins and history.

### Your other computers

Sign in with the same account and the same data appears.

The status bar, bottom left of the app

- online: Changes are saved and synced.
- syncing: Changes are on their way.
- offline: Saved on this computer. Syncs when you are back online.
- sync error: Click it to see what went wrong.

*Saved on your computer first, then synced over TLS to your free account. It is not end-to-end encrypted.*

**Syncs with your account**

- Tasks, topics and rewards
- Habits, with all their groups
- Completions, focus time and coins
- Settings: theme, sounds, the timer, shortcuts, the schedule and the floating timer's style

**Stays on this computer**

- The window view
- Panel widths
- Where you put the floating timer
- Your Analytics filters

Habits sync with every [habit group](https://dabadoro.com/docs/habit-groups/) and its history. The [privacy policy](https://dabadoro.com/privacy/) lists every service involved.

> **Note:** The [web Pomodoro timer](https://dabadoro.com/pomodoro-timer/) is separate. It needs no account and shares nothing with the desktop app.

## Know when it syncs

Changes go out and come in on their own. There is no sync button to press.

*When Dabadoro sends and receives changes*

| When | Dabadoro |
| --- | --- |
| You edit something | Sends it once you stop editing for 60 seconds, and within 5 minutes while you keep editing. |
| You complete an item or spend coins | Sends it after about 3 seconds, so your level and stats catch up. |
| You close the app | Sends what is still waiting, then closes. |
| The app starts or reconnects | Receives the changes made on your other computers. |
| A sync fails | Tries again after 30 seconds, 2 minutes and 10 minutes, then pauses for 5 minutes. |

To see another computer's changes sooner, close and reopen Dabadoro on this one.

## See what happens when you go offline or switch computers

Your work is never lost by going offline. Two computers settle item by item.

*What happens in each case*

| If | Then |
| --- | --- |
| You work offline | Your changes wait on this computer and go out when you reconnect. |
| Two computers change the same item | The version that reaches your account last is kept. |
| You complete one habit on both for the same day | Your account keeps one completion for that day. |
| You complete one task on both | It counts once: the completion that syncs last is kept. |
| Both change your coins while offline | The balance from the computer that syncs last is kept. |
| You set up a new computer | [Install Dabadoro](https://dabadoro.com/docs/getting-started/) and log in. It waits up to 8 seconds for your data, then opens with it. |
| A computer stays away over 53 days | Its next sync downloads your whole account again, so deletions made elsewhere reach it. |

## Fix a sync error

A red sync error in the status bar is a button. It opens the details.

*Figure: The status bar reads sync error.*

*Figure: The Sync problem details dialog: Sync status, Pending items and the last error message, with the Copy problem report and Retry sync buttons. Example data.*

- **sync error**: Click it to open the details.
- **Copy problem report**: Copies a report you can email us.

Your changes stay safe on this computer while the error lasts. Press **Retry sync** to try again now. If it does not clear the error, send the report to [contact@dabadoro.com](mailto:contact@dabadoro.com).

After 24 hours of errors while online, Dabadoro returns to the sign-in screen. Your data stays on this computer and syncs once you log in. Time offline never counts.

## Resolve changes that were not synced

If the server refuses a change, an amber notice stays in the status bar until you choose.

*Figure: The status bar reads online, with an amber 1 not synced button.*

*Figure: The Sync section in Settings, System tab: a task the server did not accept, with the Try again and Use the cloud copy buttons. Example data.*

*Example data.*

1. **Click 1 not synced**

It opens Settings on the System tab, at the Sync section.

2. **Press Try again**

Dabadoro sends the change once more.

3. **Or press Use the cloud copy**

The version in your account replaces this one. For a change the cloud never had, the app asks **Remove it from this device?** first.

## Stay signed in

Sign in once on each computer. After that, Dabadoro opens without asking.

*Figure: The Dabadoro sign-in screen: Welcome to Dabadoro! with the Log in and Create account buttons.*

*Figure: The Dabadoro sign-in screen while offline: Waiting for connection. You can log in once you are back online. Log in and Create account are greyed out.*

*The sign-in screen, online and offline.*

Being offline never logs you out. The first sign-in on a computer needs a connection, so **Log in** waits until you are back online.

Your sign-in lasts a year and renews while you use the app. Its key lives only in your computer's keychain. Up to 20 computers stay signed in at once; one more sign-in ends the oldest.

## Log out, reset or delete your data

Log out and Reset account data are in Settings, on the Account tab.

*Figure: The Account tab in Settings: a profile card with Manage account, then Log out and Reset account data under Log out and reset. Example data.*

- **Manage account**: Name, email, password and security, in your browser.
- **Log out**: Logs out of the app and your browser.
- **Reset account data**: Clears tasks, habits and history.

*What each action does on this computer and in your account*

| Action | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| **Log out** | Sends what is waiting, then clears this computer. Changes it cannot send stay here, hidden from other accounts, until you log in again. Your account keeps everything. |
| **Reset account data** | Deletes your tasks, habits, history, coins, topics, rewards and settings, then clears this computer and reloads. XP and level start again, with the default rewards. |
| Delete your account | Done in **Manage account**. Your account and its data are deleted, and your computers are signed out. A Pro or Max plan ends at once. |

*Figure: The Log out with unsaved changes? dialog: 2 changes were not saved to the cloud. The buttons are Cancel, Keep them on this device, and Delete them and log out.*

*Log out asks first while changes the server refused are on this computer.*

> **Watch out:** **Reset account data** cannot be undone, and it needs a connection.
